Summer Dreaming

My son and I sit on the porch gazing at the blazing stars on a summer’s evening. A gentle hush of a breeze brings scents of dandelion and freshly cut grass. He intertwines his fingers through mine, still sticky from the ice cream cone bought from the musical ice cream truck. The sprinkler showers the tree's leaves and the marigolds beneath them, making them glitter under the bloated white moon. We watch the doves fly past, and others who are nestled away across the yard, their dozy calls, soothing. I smile down at my son’s sun-kissed face, and breathe in the moment with a sigh. I am in no hurry to go inside and sleep. This moment will be my dream for tonight. And it is a good one.
