Moments

I remember the days when life was sweet as a lollipop in a little girl’s hands running through grassy fields and across train tracks. Where giggles were carried upon the wind and love grew like a seed without boundaries.
I remember the moments at my grandfather’s house down by the bay, where skipping stones was life’s supreme accomplishment, and feeding the wandering horses grass through picket fences, life’s greatest joy.
I remember the wonder I felt when my grandmother sang to me and kept my secrets; when I was daddy’s little girl, his baby, and cherub.
I wish I could go back to those days, those moments, those wonders, and relive them all just for a day--with fresh eyes that are wide open to marvel in the magic unfolding.
But I realize that life is still full of wonder all around us; the way snowflakes dance across the crisp February sky, floating and melting against my upturned cheeks. The scent of spring that envelopes the air in April and its showers that renew my spirit like an oasis. The way the fireflies light up the summer night sky; a private fireworks if you only believe. And the loons who sing their lullaby to me at night--whose soft calls are carried upon the breeze into my open window, causing the sheers to flutter, and their song to touch me. It is comforting and melodic as a grandmother’s voice that once sang to a little girl who dared to dream.

  2. Thanks. :) Everything is good. I was just reminiscing about the times when I was a little girl and thinking how great it would be to see my grandparents again. Everything is awesome here, but thanks for the kind words.

Isn't that one of the reasons we write?

Maybe you've had this experience too... when in the act of writing something, I'll suddenly recall an experience (once was when I was with my grandfather at a lake) that I may not have ever thought of consciously. It seemed to me to be almost some type of hypnotism that brought back a "lost" memory. But it was because I was writing something that sparked that recollection.

It's not why I write, but it is one of the joys of writing.

(btw, nice post - and nice to see everything's awesome there!)

  6. Wonderfully stated. And as long as we embrace our 'inner child', we shall always marvel at simple yet profound wonders, that are right before our eyes and in our hearts.
In kindness and respect, Gary :)
