I thought I'd talk about books today and what it is about them that is so fantastical. Right now, I'm reading the last in the series of the Hunger Games, MOCKINGJAY. I am thoroughly enjoying these books. Katniss Everdeen, the unlikely hero, fighting against a suppressive and all controlling government while finding love. (yeah, and she better choose Peeta!) It causes me to flip the pages with the excitement of a child. I love books that are able to do that to me and hope some always will no matter how old I become.
I bought another novel yesterday titled NIGHTSHADE, by Andrea Cremer. Since I'm in the middle of Mockingjay, I just planned to glance through the first page. I was seriously drawn in-no-engulfed by it. It reminded me of the Twilight series, which are probably my favourite books and ones that kept me up way into the wee hours of the morning. Similar to Twilight, I think, but this time, it is the girl that is the unique, unearthly creature that falls for the human boy. Great opening, great writing, great plot. Can't wait to read it all!
Not to mention, I must read HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HOLLOWS! J.K Rowling, afterall, is my writing hero. Her own personal story is so motivating. Her writing, amazing, the books, well, incredible as you know. What is it about those books that draw the reader in so much and so deep? You know the ones. Each word, each sentence, sucking you in, deeper still until you feel as though you are walking right into the very pages of the book itself.
What books have kept you up turning the pages, hungry for more? Please tell me so that I can go buy them up! Happy reading and happy writing to my fellow writer friends. :D
OOOh I haven't read Nightshade but I hear a lot of people say it is that way when they cracked it open.
ReplyDeleteHunger Games, HP, Sabriel (I almost choked when I read you hadn't read Deathly Hallows yet! DO IT GIRL!) So many good books...love them all.
Deathly Hallows it is! Next on my list! Thanks Colene!
ReplyDeleteGive me books, fruit, French wine and fine weather and a little music out of doors, played by someone I do not know.
ReplyDeleteI think Keats got it right. Currently reading Empire of the Summer Moon.
That sounds just about right. :)
ReplyDeleteI recently finished CATCHING FIRE and hope to start MOCKINGJAY this month. Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteI will finish MOCKINGJAY today. It's very good but my favourite was the first one, HUNGER GAMES.
ReplyDeleteSometimes series are like that : the first one is the best because it catches you by surprise.
ReplyDeleteThe cover of NIGHTSHADE alone makes me want to read it.
As a lonely Lakota boy in Cajun country, books were my passport to places where Ulysses and Sherlock could think their way out of any problem. To a scrawny boy like me, that thought made life more bearable. And so I have been a reader and writer ever since.
I got chills when I read that Roland. So touching. I can picture you sitting there as a boy...escaping in your books to another place. I read a lot as a young girl too....the books... and my imagination taking me away.
